Taipei, May 15 (CNA) The National Taichung Library in central Taiwan became Taiwan's first digital library Tuesday when its new site opened to the public for a three-week trial run.
Over 1,000 people came to the new home of the library on its soft opening day to apply for a library card that allows them access to 500,000 books, along with 15,000 e-books and 20,000 compact discs.
Besides interactive kiosks to help readers negotiate the new building situated in Taichung, the library said it can also suggest books for readers based on what they have borrowed in the past.
The five-story building has a streamlined shape, which helps integrate it with the city's landscape, library officials said.
Readers can expect more digital services to be unveiled when the new building is officially opened June 3, the officials added.
