Flora Expo visitor number hits new high

Taipei, Feb. 5 (CNA) The Taipei International Flora Expo hasattracted more than 4 million visitors since its opening on Nov. 6,2010, organizers said Saturday.

As of 3 p.m., the accumulated visitor number had exceeded 4.18million, according to the Taipei International Flora Expo OperationalHeadquarters.

Official statistics showed that 91,059 people visited the flowerexposition on Friday, setting a new single-day record. But the recordwas broken Saturday as the visitor number had reached 91,676 by 2: 50p.m.

Ting Hsi-yung, general producer of the flora expo operationalheadquarters, said the daily visitor number could hit 100,000 duringthe Lunar New Year holiday.

The United Daily News reported Saturday that the popularity ofthe flora expo has affected tourist service business in Taiwan's twomajor travel destinations -- the Kenting National Park in the southand the Taroko National Park in eastern Taiwan.

The number of visitors to Kenting saw a 20 percent decline duringthe Lunar New Year holiday and the first-day passenger number ofTaroko special tour buses fell 50 percent from the same period oflast year, according to the paper.
