Taipei, May 21 (CNA) Potential buyers and exhibitors from 18 countries have registered so far for SMART ASIA Taiwan 2018, a trade fair showcasing smart city solutions and urban development that will be held in Taichung in July, the event's main organizer said Monday.

Buyers from the 18 countries, which include Russia, Germany, Brazil, Malaysia, and Canada, will be looking to place orders or explore opportunities through one-to-one consultations, according to the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

Government officials and contractors of government projects from Russia, Brazil and Nicaragua have also expressed interest in visiting the fair, according to TAITRA.

Among the overseas exhibitors will be Enercon, Germany's largest wind turbine manufacturer, and Scania, a major Swedish manufacturer of commercial vehicles, TAITRA said in a statement.

Domestic exhibitors will include Taiwan International Ports Corp. and World Metrology Co., Ltd., a measurement technology company.

The exhibition will be divided into three sections -- smart city solutions, smart technology applications and development of smart city-related business opportunities -- and five smart zones -- smart buildings, smart transport, smart long-term care, smart manufacturing and smart energy systems, the statement said.

The European Chamber of Commerce has been invited to co-organize the show because companies in Europe care more about global efforts in energy efficiency and low carbon emissions than those in other regions, according to TAITRA.

The show will be held from July 26 to 28 at the Taichung International Exhibition Center.
