Taipei, March 14 (CNA) EVA Airways, one of Taiwan's major airlines, said Wednesday it will launch a new route between Taoyuan and Chiang Mai, the second largest city in Thailand, on July 1.

The airline said it will offer a daily flight on the route, using its Airbus A321-200 aircraft, which has eight business class and 176 economy class seats.

Starting July 1, the flight will depart Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 7:25 a.m. daily, arriving in Chiang Mai at 10:25 a.m. local time, EVA said. On the return leg, the flight will take off from Chiang Mai at 11:30 a.m. and arrive at the Taoyuan airport at 4:45 p.m., it said.

Chiang Mai in northern Thailand was named among the 25 best destinations in Asia in 2017 by the international travel website TripAdvisor.

The city was also listed among the top 10 spots in the 2017 World's Best Awards by another travel website Travel and Leisure.

Meanwhile, another of Taiwan's leading carriers, China Airlines (CAL), said Wednesday it plans to resume service on the Kaohsiung-Jakarta and Kaohsiung-Kuala Lumpur routes, in step with the Taiwan's government's New Southbound Policy of building closer ties with countries in South and Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
