Tigerair Taiwan to launch flights to Ibaraki, Hanamaki

Taipei, Jan. 15 (CNA) Budget carrier Tigerair Taiwan said Monday that it will launch scheduled charters in late March between Taiwan and Ibaraki and Hanamaki in Japan because of the success of charters on the two routes last year.

The carrier will operate round-trip flights to Ibaraki, northeast of Tokyo, every Monday and Thursday between March 26 and Oct. 27. The flights will take off from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 9:30 a.m. and depart from Ibaraki Airport at 3 p.m.

The airline will also offer service to Hanamaki in northern Honshu every Wednesday and Saturday between March 28 and June 30, with the flights departing from Taoyuan at 12:15 p.m. and from Hanamaki at 5:50 p.m.

The two destinations are among those the budget carrier has served with charter flights over the past year.

Tigerair Taiwan offered charters to Ibaraki in July 2017 and to Hanamaki starting on Sept. 3, 2017, the airline said.

It has continued to offer two round-trip charters per week between Taoyuan and Hanamaki since last year, but seats on those flights can only be booked through travel agents.

When the flights become scheduled charters in March, passengers will be able to make reservations directly with the airline online, according to Tigerair Taiwan.

Taiwanese travel agencies have expressed strong interest in the routes, the airline said, adding that it hopes to turn them into regularly scheduled flights in the future if the momentum can be maintained.
