Taipei, Dec. 5 (CNA) Far EasTone Telecommunications, one of Taiwan's three major telecom carriers, said Wednesday pre-orders for Apple Inc.'s iPhone 5 have exceeded 60,000 since it opened pre-ordering the previous day.

Taiwan Mobile said it had received more than 20,000 pre-orders Tuesday, the first day of the company’s pre-ordering for iPhone 5 ahead of its launch in Taiwan on Dec. 14.

Chunghwa Telecom, the country’s biggest telecom company, began taking pre-orders at 10 a.m. Wednesday but said its website soon crashed due to heavy traffic.

Taiwan will be among the 50 countries in which Apple will roll out its 4-inch iPhone 5 handset this month, according to an announcement by the U.S. company on Dec. 3.
