Taipei, Sept. 22 (CNA) Fans of the world's top-ranked female golfer Yani Tseng are invited to show their support for the Taiwanese player via an online promotion campaign for premium Taiwanese products, a campaign organizer said Saturday.
The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), one of the organizers of the promotion, said it hopes to use Tseng's fame to make "reliable, innovative and worthwhile" Taiwan-made products more widely known in the Chinese-speaking community.
The Mandarin-language campaign, which lasts until mid-October, asks people to choose their favorite Taiwan-made gift for Tseng, said TAITRA, Taiwan's main trade promotion body.
A bicycle, a smartphone, an LED desk lamp and an electric rice cooker are among the 10 products that people can choose from.
Participants have the chance of winning tickets to watch the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship in late October or coupons worth as much as NT$50,000 (US$1,704), TAITRA said.
The campaign has attracted over 6,200 participants since it was launched five days ago.
The campaign is also meant to drum up support for Tseng and to wish her luck in all her upcoming competitions, TAITRA said.
The 23-year-old Tseng already has five majors under her belt, but has not had a top-10 finish in a stroke play event on the LPGA Tour since mid-April.
She has also missed the cut in three of her last seven events, a remarkable number considering that she only missed three cuts on the LPGA Tour in the first four full years of her professional career from 2008 to 2011.
Last week, Tseng failed to defend her two-time winning title and finished tied for 26th at the Ricoh Women's British Open.
In August, TAITRA also invited Hebe, a member of the Taiwanese girl group S.H.E., to be a spokeswoman for Taiwan Excellence products in Qingdao, China.
