Taipei, May 15 (CNA) Premier Sean Chen said Tuesday a special task force will be established to monitor the performance of the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TAIEX) in light of its low trading volume Monday, when it fell to the lowest level in three years.
Chen said he has asked Vice Premier Jiang Yi-huah to establish a task force to closely monitor the price and volume fluctuations in the stock market, noting it will intervene in the market when necessary.
He said the reduced trading volume is a warning sign, but the price fluctuations as observed in the market are not out of the ordinary.
Chen made the remarks on the sideline of a ceremony marking the scheduled closure of the Government Information Office on May 20.
