Taiwan recurve women's team bags bronze at Archery World Cup (update)

Taipei, May 26 (CNA) Taiwanese archers took a bronze medal in the recurve women's team event at the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Turkey on Saturday, after beating India 6-2 in the finals.

Tan Ya-ting (譚雅婷) gave the team a head start, defeating Indian Deepika Kumari 53-51 in the first set, giving Taiwan an early 2-point lead.

In recurve team competitions, each of a team's three archers shoot six arrows per set, with the set winner getting two points. The first team to six points wins.

In the second set, Taiwan's Lei Chien-ying (雷千瑩) continued the winning streak with 54-50 lead over her Indian competitor.

Although the Indians narrowed the gap by taking two points in the third set, Taiwan held on to win 58-53 in the fourth and final set.

Speaking after the competition, Taiwanese coach Ni Ta-chih (倪大智) praised the performance of his team.

Although they lost the third set, the archers managed to readjust and finished with a bronze medal, he said.

In the recurve women's finals, Lei beat Lee Eun Gyeong of South Korea 6-2 to win an individual bronze medal for Taiwan.

"To me, this medal means a lot as a personal achievement," Lei said.

The second leg of the 2018 Hyundai Archery World Cup tour is being held in Antalya May 20-26.
