Taiwan grabs 5 gold, 2 silver in archery at 2018 Gymnasiade in Morocco

Taipei, May 7 (CNA) Taiwanese archers clinched five gold and two silver medals at the 2018 Gymnasiade in Morocco on Sunday.

Taiwan struck gold in the recurve mixed team event, with the team of Tang Chih-chun (湯智鈞) of New Taipei Municipal Mingder High School and Chang Rong-jia (張容嘉) of Hualien County's Physical Education High School taking the top spot.

The duo managed to beat Ukraine 6-0 in the finals, taking three straight sets -- 40-34, 39-35 and 39-36.

The recurve boys team, represented by Chou Li-chun (周立郡), Lin Zih-siang (林子翔), and Tang, also won gold after beating a team from the Ukraine 5-4.

Another gold was won by Taiwan's female recurve team after beating France 6-2 in their final showdown on Sunday.

Tang also won gold in the individual boys recurve event with a come-from-behind 6-4 over his compatriot Lin.

Su Szu-ping (蘇思蘋) took gold in the individual girls recurve tournament, topping compatriot Chang 6-0.

The 2018 Gymnasiade is an international multi-sport event organized by the International School Sport Federation (ISF) for athletes from the ages of 13 to 18.

The event, which is being held in Marrakech, Morocco, from May 2 to 9, features 18 disciplines, including archery, judo, karate, swimming and tennis.
