Taiwan loses to Philippines in World Cup Asian qualifier

Manila, Nov. 27 (CNA) Taiwan's basketball team was defeated by the Philippines in a 2019 Basketball World Cup qualifying match in Quezon City on Monday, its second loss in its qualifying Group B.

Despite a strong first quarter, Taiwan trailed by halftime and never was able to get back in the game, eventually losing 90-83.

Monday's loss followed a 104-66 defeat against Australia in Taipei on Friday.

Taiwan's next game in the group will be against Japan on Feb. 22, 2018.

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification (Asia) process will determine the 6 teams from FIBA Asia and/or FIBA Oceania that will participate in the 2019 FIBA World Cup, which is set to take place in China from Aug. 31 to Sept. 15.
