Taipei, Nov. 25 (CNA) Crime thriller "The Bold, The Corrupt, and The Beautiful" (血觀音) by Taiwanese director Yang Ya-che (楊雅喆) beat a field of strong contenders to grab the Golden Horse Award for best feature film, giving it three awards at Saturday's ceremony in Taipei.

"The Bold, The Corrupt, and The Beautiful" had seven nominations at this year's awards. Hong Kong's Kara Wai (惠英紅) and Taiwan-born Vicky Chen (文淇) also grabbed the best leading actress and supporting actress awards, respectively, for their roles in the film.

"In this era of positive energy, 'The Bold, The Corrupt, and The Beautiful' is not a positive film," the 46-year-old Yang said in his acceptance speech. "But I think it exposed some darkness, which will make society a better place."

"What I want to say is that no one in this society is an outsider," he said.

"The Bold, The Corrupt, and The Beautiful" revolves around the character Madame Tang, who is the matron of a powerful family.

Tang, played by Wai, colludes between the government and private businesses for the benefit of her family, but one day a land development project that Tang is involved in goes awry and an entire family close to her is killed in a grisly murder.

Yang started his film career as a scriptwriter. His first feature film Orz Boyz! won best director at the Taipei Film Festival in 2008, and his second film "Gf*Bf" won best leading actress at the Golden Horse Awards in 2012.

The other nominees for this year's Golden Horse best feature film award were Chinese director Geng Jun's comedy "Free and Easy," Taiwanese director Huang Hsin-yao's dark comedy "The Great Buddha +," Taiwanese director Sylvia Chang's cross-generational drama "Love Education," and Chinese director Vivian Qu's dark drama "Angels Wear White."

The Golden Horse Awards ceremony, Taiwan's equivalent of the Oscars, is one of the most prestigious film events in the Chinese-speaking world.
