Premier Lai Ching-te (賴清德)

Taipei, Oct. 17 (CNA) Premier Lai Ching-te (賴清德) said Tuesday that Taiwan is willing to interact with Beijing under the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) framework at next month's APEC summit.

Lai made the statement in an interpellation session at the Legislative Yuan.

He said that the public should support President Tsai Ing-wen's (蔡英文) announcement at a press conference Oct. 12 that Taiwan is willing to interact and cooperate with Beijing at this year's meeting.

During the press conference, Tsai announced that People First Party Chairman James Soong (宋楚瑜) will be her envoy at the APEC summit, which will be held in Da Nang, Vietnam Nov. 10-11.

Lai said that Taiwan can participate in the APEC forum as an equal member as it has been admitted as a member economy.
