Taipei, March 8 (CNA) The 25th Taipei Cycle opening ceremony successfully took place in the Taiwan World Trade Center (TWTC) Nangang Exhibition Hall on March 7, 2012.
President Ma participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony and presented the gold awards to the five TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards winners: Giant, Kenda, KMC, Fairly Bike and Ke Chiuan.
During his remarks, President Ma mentioned, "More and more people in Taiwan start to ride bicycles. While the government is completing 2,000 KM bike path around the whole island, it not only makes Taiwan a spotlight among cyclists, but also shows the government's determination to promote the industry.
President Ma further expects that TAIPEI CYCLE will one day become the largest bicycle show in the world.
On behalf of the show organizer, Dr. Wang Chih-kang, Chairman of TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council), indicated that this year's show is the largest ever.
In addition to using two venues, the first-ever Taipei Int'l Sports Textile & Accessory Expo (SpoMODE) and the Taipei Cycle d&i awards, TAIPEI CYCLE drew more attention on sportswear and sports fashion, demonstrating its diversity and abundance.
Mr. Antony Lo, Chairman of Taiwan Bicycle Exporters' Association (TBEA), said that Taiwan is the center of manufacturing high-end bicycles. After the ECFA, the export value from Taiwan complete bikes to China increased 207% last year (2011).
It shows that this is a win-win situation. Furthermore, bicycle industry supports a vital mass of logical sustainability, which also opens a door to eco-friendly and low carbon life.
Various new products and diverse events were launched on the first day of Taipei Cycle. About 150 exhibitors use 260 booths at TWTC Hall 1.
Most of them are new exhibitors, which brings new energy and business opportunities to the show. The first-ever SpoMODE in TWTC Exhibition Hall 1 is also a "MUST" visiting.
Over 300 one-on-one international meetings for investment and trade were held on the first day, all meeting times had already been signed up for before the exhibition, 80 domestic manufacturers had chances to hold talks with nearly 60 important int'l visitors, clearing showing the strength of Taiwan sportswear and fabrics.
To display the fine quality of the products, a real demo of fashion show took place and won foreign visitors' favorable praise. Visitors are able to take free inter hall shuttle buses to transport between the two halls.
In the 16th International Bicycle Design Competition award ceremony, the gold went to "Velocity" by Taiwan designer Chen Zheng-Liang, the silver went to "City" by Tim Lee from China, and the bronze went to "G2" by Paulus Maringka from New Zealand.
It is particularly noteworthy that Velocity has been developed into a real bike by Cycling & Health Tech Industry R&D Center (CHC).
Hosted by TBEA's Chairman, Mr. Antony Lo and joined by many professionals and experts in the field, including Marc Sani from Bicycle Retailer & Industry News, Yozo Shimano from Shimano, Rene Takens, the CEO of Accel Group and Mr. Shi-Guang Yu, the director of China National Information Center for Bicycle Industry, the 2012 International Bicycle Trend Forum will focus on trends in the world bicycle market and the direction of bicycling industry development. Future cycling will be more than ""utility" or "sport" purpose, instead, the bicycles should support different lifestyles.
At the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion, located at the 1F visitor entrance of TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall, foreign buyers will have great opportunities to see the entire supply chain, from parts to completed bicycles, and appreciate the beauty of excellent Taiwan bicycles.
This year there are 60 products from 23 manufacturers that have won awards in international design competitions and in the Taiwan Excellence competition.
These not only initiate a series of Taiwan Excellence activities, but also is a chance for foreign buyers to appreciate the Taiwan biking industry.
The new product launch in Room 404 highlights the whole exhibition and allows buyers to listen to manufacturers' explanation of their products.
Another highlight of the exhibition is the product design consulting service provided by the Taiwan Design Center alongside with Gearlab, Enschon Design, Nova Design, and Pilotfish. Meanwhile, this afternoon the Taiwan Design Center will hold a showcase match-making zone for manufacturers and designers in Room 625 of the TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall to help manufactures increase the additional value of their products in pursuit of advanced materials and of high quality.
In terms of the number of foreign buyers, Jeremy Horng, the director of TAITRA Exhibition Department announced this good news at "Taiwan Cycle Night": 4247 Int'l visitors have visited the show on the first day, an 11% increase in comparison to last year, and 94 overseas journalists have paid their visit.
The Tour de Taiwan press conference, starting at Friday, March 9, 9:30 a.m., will be the highlight tomorrow. 21 elite teams from five continents will gather at the Nangang Exhibition Hall, Gustov Volodimir from TEAM SAXO BANK, Ferrari Roberto from ANDRONI Giocattoli , Artur Ershov from RUSVELO, Dean Downing from RAPHA CONDOR SHARP and Dirk Muller from NUTRIXXION ABUS, to warm up for the Tour de Taiwan kicking off on March 10.
2012 Taipei Cycle unfolds in both TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall and TWTC Exhibition Hall 1, from March 6-10. March 6-9 only opens to trade visitors and on March 10 (the last day) opens to general public by paid ticket of NT$200. The exhibition is only for B2B.
