Taipei, March 6 (CNA) President of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Taiwan, Dr. Hwung-Hweng Hwung, and Chancellor of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) of the United States of America, Mr. Michael A. Wartell, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for membership in the Global Alliance for Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship (GATTE) to jointly promote bilateral technology transfer into innovative entrepreneurship recently.
The cooperation between NCKU and IPFW has escalated to another level that their partnership will strengthen the collaboration among academia, industry, and government in both Taiwan and the State of Indiana.
In his welcoming speech, President Hwung of NCKU said that NCKU’s partnership with IPFW based upon frequent interactions and strong collaborations.
The elite students of NCKU’s visiting IPFW last summer felt gratitude for IPFW’s hospitality and the help they offered in participating last fall's Indiana-Taiwan Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship Summit (ITTTES) which will be held in NCKU this year.
Prof. Max Yen whose significant contributions served as an important catalyst in bonding NCKU and IPFW together is the key person for the union.
Traditionally universities have relationship on an academic level to exchange students and faculty while NCKU and IPFW partnership has moved from academic level to technology exchange, according to IPFW Chancellor Wartell.
IPFW has initiated ITTTES aiming at stimulating economic development in northeast Indiana region through the transfer and spin-off of intellectual properties developed through Taiwan's university-based incubation centers.
The delegation headed by Chancellor Wartell had meetings with professors of NCKU and visited companies at Tainan Science Park of Taiwan.
IPFW, established at 1964, is the fifth largest university in the states, offering more than 200 Indiana University and Purdue University programs. Academician and scientist, Michael A. Wartell was appointed Chancellor of IPFW in July1994.
