Taipei, June 21 (CNA) "Young Dudes,”a film by Taiwanese director DJ Chen, will be shown at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) on June 23 and June 25.
The 31-year-old will make a personal appearance after the showingon June 25 and will afterwards attend a dinner hosted by the Taipei Representative Office in Edinburgh, the second largest city in Scotland.
"Young Dudes”stars Wang Po-chieh, Abe Tsuyoshi and Larisa Barukova, and is one of the few fantasy films to have been produced in Taiwan.
After hearing the end of the world is imminent, the film's three main characters -- a rock musician, a carpenter and a young Russian woman -- launch a virtual Noah’s Ark that ends up attracting interest from aliens.
The film, Chen's first feature in six years, was chosen to be the opening film of the Taipei Golden Horse Fantastic Film Festival in April 2012. It has also been nominated for the Taipei Award at the Taipei Film Festival in June-July 2012.
"Formula 17," Chen's first feature film, became the highest grossing domestic film when it premiered in 2004. Tony Yang, the film's lead actor, won the Golden Horse Award for Best Newcomer.
The EIFF was established alongside the Edinburgh International Festival in 1947 as one of the world’s first international film festivals. The festival, which will be held June 20-July 1, places an emphasis on showcasing new talent and innovations.
