Deal with IBM fails to boost UMC shares

Taipei, June 14 (CNA) Shares of United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC), one of the world's leading contract chip makers, failed to get a boost Friday from the announcement of its deal to join forces with IBM in developing an advanced production technology, dealers said. After UMC shares staged an initial technical rebound, profit taking emerged to erase the stock's earlier gains by the end of the session, they said.
