Taipei, Jan. 23 (CNA) Around 17 percent office workers intend to have cosmetic surgery during the long Lunar New Year holiday next month, according to a survey published by an online job bank Wednesday.

The yes 123 survey found that 91.9 percent of office workers think good-looking people stand a better chance of making an impression in job interviews, and 16.5 percent of all office workers plan to have facelifts during the Feb. 9-17 holiday.

Among the reasons for choosing cosmetic surgery, a desire to boost self-confidence was the most popular (76.2 percent), followed by hopes of attracting the attention of the opposite sex (36.7 percent), and pursuit of perfection (34.7 percent).

Huang Yu-ling, a spokeswoman for the online job bank, said that in the fashion industry, looks might be important, but in most other professions, ability is what counts toward promotion.

The poll, conducted Jan. 11-17 by the job bank, collected 1,187 effective samples and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.84 percentage points.
