Taipei, Sept. 20 (CNA) David Y.L. Lin, Taiwan's representative to the European Union and Belgium, will return home next week at the earliest in preparation for assuming his new post as foreign minister, a Foreign Ministry official said Thursday.
Government sources said a day earlier that Lin will succeed Timothy Yang, the incumbent foreign minister, who will take up the position of Presidential Office secretary-general.
The Foreign Ministry official said no decision has yet been made on who fill the post vacated by Lin.
Lin, 62, has served as Taiwan's representative to the European Union and Belgium since May 2010.
His previous posts include vice foreign minister and director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston.
