Sultry weather forecast around Taiwan Monday

2019/06/17 10:42:23

Taipei, June 17 (CNA) The weather in Taiwan will remain hot and humid Monday due to warm air brought by southeasterly winds, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

Sunny skies will prevail in most parts of the country, with possible occasional showers in the south and in Hualien and Taitung in the east, but mountainous areas could see heavier rain in the afternoon, the bureau said.

Daytime highs will be similar to the previous day, reaching 34 degrees Celsius in western Taiwan and 30-32 degrees in the east, the CWB said.

Dangerously high levels of ultraviolet radiation can be expected around midday, the bureau said, warning people to take the necessary precautions when going outdoors.

Meanwhile, the air quality on Monday was good in Yilan, Hualien, Taitung and other eastern areas of the country, and fair in Kaohsiung and Pingtung in the south and in the outlying Matsu and Kinmen islands, according to the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA).

Due to the lack of wind to disperse atmospheric pollutants, however, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was flashing an "orange alert" in some parts of northern and central Taiwan, and in Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan in the south, indicating unhealthy levels for sensitive groups, according to the EPA.
