Taipei, May 31 (CNA) Taiwanese performing arts troupe Paper Windmill Theatre has urged the public to purchase tickets for its performances for less fortunate children, in a bid to foster an interest in drama and plays.

In offering the tickets, Lee Yung-feng (李永豐), founder of Paper Windmill Theatre, said Friday that Paper Windmill allows theater-goers to pay for extra tickets for NT$650 (US$20.6) for children in need.

Since December 2006, the Paper Windmill Theatre has staged 682 free shows in 368 townships, aiming to bridge the cultural gap between rural and urban areas and ensure that every child in Taiwan has the opportunity to enjoy live theatrical performance.

However, to help nurture and encourage creativity in children, Lee said what the theater has been doing is not enough.

Providing children with access to the arts will not only inspire hope and dreams, Lee said, but could help transform traditional crafts in the nation.

From Friday to Sunday, Paper Windmill Theatre will bring its classic "Paper Windmill Fantasy" to the National Performing Arts Center in Taipei.
