Taipei, May 28 (CNA) Fifteen soldiers were injured Tuesday when the military truck on which they were traveling crashed into a vacant sentry post in Hsinchu County during Taiwan's annual military exercise, according to the Army.

The vehicle from the Army's 542nd Armored Brigade was on its way to an assignment at the Army's Hukou base with 15 soldiers on board when it crashed into the vacant concrete sentry box around 4 p.m., the Sixth Army Corps said in a press release.

All of the soldiers were rushed to a nearby hospital, some of them broken bones and chest damage, while others had only minor injuries, the Army said, adding that none of them were in life-threatening condition.

An ad hoc investigative committee has since been assembled to determine the cause of the accident, which occurred during Taiwan's annual Han Kuang live-fire exercises, the military said.

The exercises, Taiwan's most important war games, started Monday and are being staged over five days.

They are held each year to test the combat capabilities of all branches of Taiwan's armed forces, in the face of a continued military threat from China.
