Bas-relief postage stamps to hit market
2010/06/21 18:40:23
Taipei, June 21 (CNA) Taiwan's first bas-relief postage stamps, featuring the work of a late local sculptor, are to be launched by the Chunghwa Post Co., Ltd., postal officials said Monday.

The stamps, scheduled for release the following day, are made by pressing them into an engraved mold, producing a bas-relief effect that gives a sculpture-like effect of depth and dimension, according to the officials.

The subject of the stamps is Huang Tu-shui's sculpture "Taiwan Buffaloes," which is displayed at Zhongshan Hall in Taipei, where the stamps will be officially launched.

Huang (1895-1930) , was Taiwan's first sculptor and innovator to combine Western sculpture techniques with those of Taiwanese traditional sculpture.

The stamps are twice the size of an ordinary stamp and carry a price of NT$25 (US$0.8). (By Wang Shu-feng and Maubo Chang) ENDITEM/J
