Taipei, March 19 (CNA) The Penghu County government has initiated a "one-day fisherman" tour package, inviting vacationers to work as fishermen for one day on Penghu -- an archipelago off the southwestern coast of Taiwan -- this summer.
The new package will provide a chance for tourists to gain in-depth knowledge of the life and culture of fishing villages of the county by working as fishermen themselves, Magong City Mayor Su Kung-hsiung said Friday.
Tourists will be able to learn traditional and modern fishing techniques from experienced local fishermen, and go fishing with them on the sea, and they will also be able to take advantage of low tides to look for marine life on the islands' vast tidal flats, he added.
Visitors will also be shown factories that make fish-based processed products like fish meatballs and fish floss, and Penghu's largest fish drying yard, Su said.
According to the mayor, his office has been tasked to promote the tour package in Penghu's southern areas, which he said attract many tourists for summer activities including snorkeling every year. (By Mathieu Kao and Elizabeth Hsu) enditem/ls
