Alishan traffic problems leave Chinese tourists disappointed
2010/07/30 22:46:40 |
Taipei, July 30 (CNA) A lot of Chinese tourists regret that they miss the opportunity to tour Alishan (Ali Mountain) due to traffic problems, the Chinese head of a tourist association based in Taiwan said Friday.
Fan Guishan, chief secretary of the Cross-Strait Tourism Association, said Friday that Chinese tourists consider Alishan, Sun Moon Lake, the National Palace Museum and landmark skyscraper Taipei 101 "must-see" tourism destinations in Taiwan.
"Many of them may only come to Taiwan once in their life, and they want to get to all these places. But traffic to Alishan is often disrupted, leaving many of them disappointed," Fan said.
Traffic along Alishan Highway was disrupted in the wake of Typhoon Morakot in August 2009, which devastated southern Taiwan. Large buses weren't allowed up the mountain until late June, and the traffic was again disrupted recently due to heavy rains. (By Liu Teh-chang and Lilian Wu) enditem/bc
