Taiwan's Yani Tseng takes commanding lead at Women's British Open
2010/07/30 21:08:25
Taipei, July 30 (CNA) Taiwan's Yani Tseng has taken a commanding lead after completing her second round Friday at the Women's British Open, the final major of the year for women golfers.

The 21-year-old Taiwanese, who is hoping to win her second major of the year and the third of her career, took advantage of the relatively calm early morning weather at The Royal Birkdale Golf Club to card a four-under-par 68 and an 8-under 136 after two rounds.

With only a few of the leaders yet to complete play in the second round -- including Anne-Lise Caudal, who was five shots back but had yet to tee off by the time Tseng finished her round -- her lead was unlikely to be challenged before the end of the day.

Tseng holds a four-shot lead over Korean Amy Yang and Americans Christie Kerr and Brittany Lincicome and a five-shot edge over Suzann Pettersen of Norway and Sun Young Yoo of Korea, all of whom had also completed their second rounds.

Katherine Hull of Australia, who was tied for the lead with Tseng at the end of the day Thursday, was struggling Friday at two-over after 15 holes, leaving her six shots off the pace.

Tseng, who made five birdies and one bogey Friday after playing a bogey-free round Thursday, won the Kraft Nabisco Championship earlier this year and the LPGA Championship in 2008 and is currently ranked fifth in the world.
