Liberty Times: President Ma's new class struggle

President Ma Ying-jeou is pushing a new class struggle which is more drastic and violent than the one between the proletariat and bourgeoisie described by Karl Marx.
Ma is dividing Taiwan's society into two groups, one destined to profit by exploiting China's market, the other refusing to or incapable of using China to gain a profit.
His administration is transforming Taiwan society, which consists mainly of a middle class and rarely sees fierce class conflicts, into one dominated by the new classes.
Instead of creating an environment favorable for investment, the government's job has been reduced to forcing businesses to decide whether to relocate to China or to stay home and wither.
At the same time, local laborers are forced to choose between working on the mainland or staying and competing for dwindling job opportunities at home.
The policy was originally drawn up by Beijing and applied to Japan and Hong Kong. Now the Ma administration is colluding with Beijing to push it in Taiwan.
It was reported that Ma's close aides are puzzled by their boss' plummeting popularity and have been trying everything they can to reverse it but to no avail.
They really don't have to look outside for the reasons. How can people support a government which splits them into two groups and plays one against another? (Feb. 9, 2010)
